I dont have many show i really like, let alone love like this one. It seems every time i love a show it gets canceled and i dont know why.
This is a very good show with some great actors. Please bring it back. My heart is broken now with it being canceled.
Bad decision, Spike! How dare you? We need season 3 of the Shannara Chronicles. I loved the original books, and then found this; one of the best fantasy shows out there.
Bring it back! I love the shannara chronicles. Stupid of Spike tv to cancel. So many have read the Chronicles and would love to see more.
But they have no brains when it comes to scifi or fantasy programming. So many great shows have been cancelled do to ratings not being in the top ten.
But instead of working harder to bring up ratings they drop a show. Wake up network morons. I was really looking forward to the next season of The Shannara Chronicles, only to find out it was cancelled.
It seems like the only thing people want to watch these days is reality tv or singing contests. Hopefully another channel will pick up this series for all the fans who want something different than copy cat, mind numbing trash.
I dont really watch TV but my husband and I got totally hooked on this series when we found it on Netflix. Our bloodshot eyes are proof.
Bring season 3 back please! This show is way too good and the way they ended the last episode in season 3 just makes them even more horrible bc it led everyone to believe that we were in for another season.

However, after last night's two hour premiere I found myself very excited about this series. This much is apparent right off the bat.
Now while this is a slight "con" for me as I am no longer a young adult, it could certainly be conceived as a "pro" for those young adults who strive to watch more on their favorite TV channel than pregnant teens and gyrating pop stars.
That being said, there were some very cheesy conversations and "Twilight-y" moments, but not enough to be overwhelming. The Good: The Shannara Chronicles is chock-full of spectacle.
The sets are detailed and immense, the characters are intriguing, and the CGI is magnificent without being overbearing. The two standouts for me are Allanon and the Dagda Mor.
Manu Bennett conveys just the right amount of power and mystery. The Dagda Mor could be one of the coolest villains I've seen in quite a while, and that's just based on what little we've seen of him so far.
Another surprising treat is the music. Hard to explain, but to me it just feels like a perfect fit so far.
I hold a lot of hope for this series. Even though it's been noticeably MTV'd, there is plenty there for fans of the books and discerning viewers looking for something original and entertaining.
So give it a solid chance, go in with no expectations or preconceived notions, and I think you too will find yourself pleasantly surprised.
I love this series of books.. I hate when they change the order if events. I hate when if in a book they describe a characters looks a certain way and they look nothing like the description.
I hate when they add characters in that weren't a part of the book to begin with. I would rather see episodes per book and do it right as per the book.
This was just I haven't read the books so I can't comment on their relation to the show. However, I can say that they weren't good at all.
The first two episodes had terrible pacing; at first nothing was happening and then halfway into episode 2, 2 major characters are revealed without any breathing room or reaction time from the main characters.
I'd heard the visuals were good, so i was at least looking forward to that. The location scout did a good job and the cgi artists did more or less OK with what they had for a TV show but the whole production design is pretty awful.
I'm not sure what they're going for with the elves design-wise but there's a complete lack of any sort of motifs, color scheme, etc, that unifies them and makes them stand apart..
Amberle's characterization is horribly inconsistent, with her being confident of herself to win the Gauntlet one minute, and then two minutes later being bizarrely self-doubting around a guy who she admits to not even liking much.
She's also naked, too, for some reason in the scene where she meets Wil, apparently for a cheap laugh at Wil's awkwardness.
There's a horribly awkward shoehorned romance between Amberle and a douche bag boy who apparently lacks a single defining characteristic. The flirtation has no relevance to the plot or the characters development whatsoever, and it wastes her screen time.
With Eritrea, they don't say much about her other than that she's "tough," and at one point in episode two she is lashed around the neck with a whip and dragged around, for no reason whatsoever that impacts the plot.
The physical brutality with which she was treated is completely brushed off and we see nothing of how this might have impacted her, which is all kinds of disturbing.
The only character with any kind of visible personality is Wil, and though he's much more endearing than the other characters have been so far, his main character trait is awkwardness and nervous quips.
The acting is awful and is most likely a result of lazy directing and bad writing, as we've seen Ivana Baquero before in Pan's Labyrinth light up the screen.
I just wish these actors, the women especially, were given more to work with. I wouldn't be so hard on this if it wasn't apparent they had both a wealth of source material and budget to make this halfway decent.
The sad thing is this show isn't even fun. Wil is the only character with any sort of sense of humor and even then it's no more ambitious than the whole country-boy-is-confused routine, which, if they don't level up, is going to get really old really fast.
There is nothing unique about any of the characters, plot, world-building, or concepts. It looks like a badly rendered video game. TL;DR: this could've had potential but with episodes 1 and 2 they've just shot themselves in the foot.
I hope there's an attempt to fix at least some glaring problems in the coming season, because it could be okay if they did, but I'm not going to hold my breath.
They changed the story regarding the locales of the main characters. This was obviously to save money because it would have required gnomes and dwarfs.
They added trolls for no reason; which wasn't expensive, because, in the creator's view, they are just people wearing gas masks. They appeared to have gotten rid of the Reaper, one of the most important characters in the entire story.
That's probably to reduce cost on CGI. They changed Paranor into a ruin instead of a naturally guarded keep, and changed the demonic attack on it to a hallucination of a duel.
Again, penny pinching. This is probably to remove minor actors and death scenes-- saving money. The story was drastically changed, there are many more examples.
The story is pretty incoherent as they just time warp to distant places and back again. The dialogue by the younger actors is absurd, and from what I read, will get even more ridiculous.
This is not a 'Game of Thrones' competitor. It is a travesty. It was not done on a big-budget, the obvious penny-pinching makes it impossible to suspend disbelief and enjoy the show.
This series will be going nowhere fast. I have not read the source books never even knew they exist , so I do not have any reference to how much the TV version deviates from it.
But I found the world presentation pretty good, all the overgrown technology etc. However, I think that the "eyes up here" scene at river in Episode 3 was a bit pointless, but probably had to be due to it being on MTV.
Also, Wil in few scenes sounds like Hayden Christensen in SW prequels, which is to say, awful, but it is just few scenes, so it is bearable.
But, the special effects are pretty good or a TV show and most actors are pretty good as well. I would give the series a chance, see how it develops.
I like his writing style and the stories are compelling. And yes, Sword of Shannara, the big first book that was skipped for this TV series is indeed highly similar to Lord of the Rings.
But still entertaining, so I say, so what. All that said, I found the MTV realization difficult to watch For me, who appreciates a more action and epic driven story, this series falls flat.
The show is touchy-feely angst and love driven, great for a romance novel, but horrible for a fantasy high adventure story. I'd say the script and directing are just not good.
I don't blame the actors, because I think they could have played the roles differently. How can one enjoy a show when after 30 minutes you just don't care about the characters any more.
Most come across as petulant teenagers. I was happen when some characters died because I'd at least not have to listen to their whining dialog anymore.
Then I noticed it had recorded episode 10, but I never saw it had recorded episodes in the interim.. I've got zero desire to go see them.
There is surely a segment of audience that loves this show and would appreciate it and enjoy it. I suspect its the audience that likes romancy period dramas.
The dialogue is downright awful. Elves which should embody some foreign qualities talk like teenagers. The whole TV series is just another show cheaply produced for teens.
Instead of making a TV show that could be comparable to Game of Thrones, if done right, they produced absolute trash. The show has few redeeming qualities.
I am disappointed Terry Brooks would sell the rights to such trash. The characters are weak because they are something you would find on a show like Twilight.
The changes to the story from the book detract from the show instead of adding to it. The entire show reeks of a small budget.
The Shannara Chronicles cannot be done properly unless it is done on a scale that is comparable to Game of Thrones.
I only started watching this because I remembered enjoyed reading the original Shannara trilogy as a kid. The fictional world Terry Brooks created, thousands of years after the fall of human society as we know it has great potential for a movie or TV adaptation.
Unfortunately for us, MTV and their writers and producers have produced a steaming pile of crap. Most of the show takes place in the woods, or the Elf palace, of which we see a few rooms and hallways.
The lack of scenes showing more of the Elf city, and general lack of extras other than a few masked elf guards makes the show feel cheaply produced.
Compare this to shows like Game of Thrones where every city and castle seems like a real place. MakoImdb 6 January Huge fan of the first three books Sword, Elfstones, and Wishsong , which I read when they came out during the late 70s through the mids.
Personally, I thought the series was unreadable after the first three books, so I believe I never read past book five. The Elfstones of Shannara is to this day my favorite novel.
The first book, Sword of Shannara is more or less a Lord of the Rings rip-off, but I thought it significantly written better, without the fluff of The Lord of the Rings, think a dark version of the Lord of the Rings.
With that said, its no wonder they started with Elfstones as Sword would actually appear to be a Lord of the Rings rip-off on screen as well.
First, I am not sure I can properly review the whole first episode as I had to turn it off after minutes. Maybe to someone that hasn't read the books or enjoys teen fantasy it might be enjoyable.
The portray of Ambelere is so horrible compared to the novel it borders on heart breaking. It went from a semi-dark post-apocalyptic Tolkienish world to bubble gum teen fantasy within about 2 minutes.
